Candidates planning to run in the
March primaries can begin filing for a
place on the ballot Monday.
Candidates need to contact county
party chairmen to put their name on the
ballot and will have until 6 p.m. Dec. 15
to file paperwork.
Scurry County elections will include the offices of district judge, district attorney, sheriff, county attorney, tax assessor-collector and Pct. 1 and 3 county commissioners.
The state offices include two seats on the railroad commission, three members of the Supreme Court and Court of Criminal Appeals, 31 state senators, all state representatives and board of education members as well as five chief justice positions on the Courts of Appeals.
During this election, Scurry County will be part of Texas House District 71 and Senate District 28. Next year also is a presidential election year and the seat for Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison will be on the ballot.
Also, 36 U.S. House of Representative seats will be determined in Texas. The county will be part of the 11th Congressional District. Early voting will be Feb. 21 through March 2 with the election scheduled for March 6.
If a primary runoff election is needed, it will be held May 22 with early voting scheduled May 14-18. Candidates will be offered one free announcement in the Snyder Daily News. Information from candidates will be accepted on Monday and continue through Dec. 16.
Candidates may submit an announcement of up to 250 words and a quality color photograph at the newspaper office. The announcement should focus on the candidate's qualifications and not their opponent, and should be prepared by the candidate or their campaign. The newspaper staff will not write announcements. Also, the photograph submitted should be of the candidate only and no family members.
Announcements will run in the order they are received and the newspaper reserves the right to edit copy. The announcement should include an address, telephone number and email so the staff can follow up with any questions. This information will not be published.
