Report Shows More People Visiting Snyder

By: Snyder Daily News
Updated: December 7, 2011
Visitors are coming to Snyder in growing numbers, and the proof is in the tax receipts. The Snyder City Council learned Monday night that hotel traffic and revenues from the city's hotel occupancy tax (HOT) continued to climb during the third quarter.

"Based on my findings, the outlook is bright and we as a community are working together to stimulate the local economy," Snyder Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Melissa Elam said in a memo to the council. "We have several new businesses open and we are giving visitors to our community more places to spend their money while in town."

In the third quarter, the hotel occupancy tax generated $95,029.84 in revenue. The chamber has a contract with the city to disburse that money. Half of the money is designated for operations and the other half is designated for restricted use to promote and support events that attract overnight visitors to Snyder.

The chamber allocated $26,981.16 toward six events that promote tourism during the third quarter. Elam also said that estimated attendance at events during that time frame was 6,700 people, who utilized approximately 713 hotel room nights.

In the third quarter of 2010, HOT receipts were $76,900.30.
