"At the start of this year, we for the first time had over 800 students at our junior high and it was really at capacity," says Joey Light, Wylie ISD Superintendent.

Junior high wasn't the only campus breaking records this year.

"For the first time we had 37 sections and we really only had 36 classrooms so we had to move a music class," says Light.

That is when , Light knew he needed to consider making some adjustments.

Light says, "Our first step is going to be to move our kindergarten back to our Early Childhood campus."

Which will alleviate the district's problem at the elementary level however, for the fifth and sixth graders, the only solution would be to construct a brand new campus.

"So we'll basically have two grades per campus, except for our high school," says Light.

Superintendent Light says the changes will benefit everyone.

"We don't think it's going to negatively impact anybody as far as their students are concerned. We actually feel like we'll be better able to address the needs of a small age range of students," Light explains.

Although these changes won't be implemented overnight, the district has already started making preparations.

Light explains, "We've been meeting with teachers and administrators, food service."

If you are wondering, how much is this project going to cost and where exactly will the money come from, Wylie ISD has it all figured out.

"This should all be paid for from fund balance so there will not be any increase in taxes to our community," says Light.

Superintendent Light says, the district is optimistic about the future and looks forward to the changes bringing the district even closer together as a family.

"We're all bull dogs and we're all in this together and this configuration of campuses will allow us to maintain that," says Light.
