Dyess Airmen Prepare Holiday Meal for Abilene Residents

It's more than a free meal to many of the people who decided to attend.
"It's fantastic. It gives my kids the opportunity to meet the military folks here in Abilene," Betty Pannell said.
Pannell came to the dinner at the Cesar Chavez Recreation Center with her three children. She says the best part about an event like this, is meeting new people in the community.
"Oh, the military guys, they are great, and the woman, they are also great. It's fun, it's a fun event," Pannell said.
This is an event that the Dyess Airmen have put together for the last 21 years. They make all the food themselves and purchase the food with donations from the community. The dinner was completely free and open to the public.
"We put together a holiday meal that includes ham, turkey, sweet potatoes, gravy, stuffing cranberry sauce," said Dyess Airman, Ricky Case.
The airmen that volunteer for this event say it's nice to get out and show the people in Abilene what they are all about.
"The younger kids help out the older kids, and it's just a good family oriented event," Pannell added.
All together they served meals to about 150 people. Helping the people who attended get into the holiday spirit.
