One Year Later, No Sign or New Leads in Dunn Case

By: Snyder Daily News
Updated: December 24, 2011
This week marks one year since Colorado City teenager Hailey Dunn was reported missing and there have been no new leads in the case and no sign of the girl.

Dunn was reported missing on Dec. 28 by her mother, Billie Jean Dunn, after being last seen on Dec. 27 by her mother's former boyfriend, Shawn Adkins. Adkins told police the teenager was going to a friend's home to spend the night, but never arrived.

The case exploded regionally and nationally, with Billie Dunn appearing on Nancy Grace's CNN show. Salacious details emerged concerning pornography found on a memory stick in Billie Dunn's home and on a computer seized from Adkins' mother's home in Big Spring.

Several members of the Dunn family were arrested while the search was ongoing. Billie Dunn was arrested for obstructing justice and hindering apprehension after hiding Adkins in her home and lying to investigators who were there to serve a warrant.

Billie Dunn also was arrested for possession of dangerous drugs and was ordered to serve 90 days in jail, probated for one year, for giving a false report to a police officer.

As part of a plea agreement, charges of hindering an investigation and possession of a dangerous drug were dropped.

Hailey's father, Clint, was arrested for being late to a court date. Billie Dunn's mother, Connie Ostrander, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance in February and was sentenced to one year in state jail for the charge in October.

While no arrests have been made and the investigation remains open, Adkins is still the only named suspect in the disappearance. A candlelight vigil was held for Hailey in August to mark the eighth month anniversary of her disappearance and her 14th birthday.

The teen's mother has moved from the area as has Adkins and both attended a vigil for the missing girl last week.

A massive search over a period of months by law enforcement and volunteers turned up no sign of the teen. Searches have been conducted in secluded areas, including areas in Scurry County and area landfills.

Hailey Dunn was last seen wearing navy blue sweat pants, a light-colored T-shirt and pink and white shoes.
