Vitamin C Deficiency? Deadly Consequences

By: Megan Dobbs
Updated: December 29, 2011
Heart patients who don't get enough Vitamin C could be at a greater risk for cardiac complications and even death.

Korean researchers studied over 200 heart failure patients, monitoring their diet and blood levels of Vitamin C.  One year later, those with the lowest Vitamin C intake were about two and a half times more likely to have heart inflammation than those with the highest Vitamin C intake.  And,  they were almost twice as likely to die from heart disease within the year of follow up.

Eating the recommended five servings of fruits and vegetables provides an adequate amount of Vitamin C.
