Abilene Health Officials Expect Increase in Flu Cases

By: Morgan Bond
Updated: January 5, 2012
There haven't been too many confirmed cases of the flu in Abilene so far, but officials say the flu season is yet to hit its peak.

According to officials with the Taylor County Health Department, there have only been 107 confirmed cases of the flu.

More than 1500 people have reported flu-like illnesses, but were not tested for the virus. They also say flu season typically peaks around this time of year, so they expect more cases to pop-up.

Officials say the best defense against getting the flu is getting vaccinated, but it takes up to two weeks for the vaccine to take effect.
