Hill works at Abilene Indoor Gun Range and says the amount of women who visit the gun range has nearly doubled over the past couple years.
"The stories I hear, you're just like, wow, you wouldn't have heard it three years ago, four years ago," says Hill.
"People know that I need a gun for protection," says Hill.
Women all over the Big Country have started taking an interest in protecting themselves against criminals.
Kathy Powers says, "It's a good idea for women that are either single moms, or maybe live in the country, or have husbands who travel and aren't home a lot."
Powers is a mother who is often left at home with her children while her husband travels out of town for work.
"Sometimes he's gone for days at a time if I were to scream, nobody's going to hear me, so to me it's important to have that type of protection," she continues.
While Powers does own guns for the protection of her family, she says if you are going to keep them in your home, it is extremely important to be a responsible owner.
"This one is kept loaded at all times in a locked gun safe. I can get to the key quickly and accessibly, but my children do not know where the key is," says Powers.
The Abilene Gun Range is a huge advocate for properly educating owners of fire arms, which is why they offer several classes to the public and their expertise on gun selection.
Hill says, "My strongest one right now that's going out for women is probably the Walther PK380."
Because of its simplicity and how easy it is to operate, Hill has sold over 10 of the PK380s to women just this past week alone.
Hill says, "I see more 50, 60-year-old women than I do single younger women."
Regardless of age, women are taking independence to another level and preparing themselves for the unexpected.
"It only takes a second to be taken down by a stronger intruder," says Powers.
