Harlem Globetrotter Visits AISD Schools

By: Marc Gustafson
Updated: January 20, 2012
Johnston elementary students got a special visitor today as a member of the Harlem Globetrotters showed them a few tricks.

"Buckets" Blakes travels around the world speaking to children at school in what they call the "Cheer Program." Today he taught the Johnston students about character.

Some of the students and even the principal also got to participate in some basketball tricks.

"It's very important for kids to learn about character, talk about character and make it instrumental in their lives because that's what's going to get them over that hump when they come across some obstacles," Blakes said.

Buckets went to several AISD schools today. The Globetrotters return to Abilene on Jan. 24 for a show at Moody Coliseum.
