Supreme Court Agrees With Texas On Redistricting Maps

By: Vertex News
Updated: January 20, 2012
The U.S. Supreme Court is ruling that a district court in San Antonio erred in redrawing the state of Texas' redistricting maps.

The court confirmed the Legislature-approved redistricting maps will be used for the upcoming primaries.

The justices voted unanimously to set aside the three-judge panel's interim maps, saying the state-approved maps do not violate the Constitution or the Voting Rights Act.

Opponents of the state-approved redistricting maps claimed they didn't reflect the increase in Texas' minority population.

Texas is preparing for an April third primary and will hold state and congressional elections in November.
