The Scurry County Hospital District will host a town hall meeting from 6-8 p.m. Thursday to present plans and receive input from the public concerning the renovation projects at Cogdell Memorial Hospital.

The meeting will be in the Safety Plus Training Center, located at 1410 College Ave.

Representatives from the architectural firm, building contractors, hospital board and hospital administration will present the renovation plans, offering the public a perspective beyond simple blueprints and fully explaining the restructuring of the healthcare facility.

"We have spent 2 years discussing this and we have probably talked about many of the things people will bring up," said board chairman Russell Riggan. "We hope we get a good turnout. We are excited about this and the direction of the hospital."

Bill Weldon, Cogdell's interim chief exeuctive officer, previously said the board wanted to give the public a thorough visualization of the project. This meeting will be an opportunity for the public to provide input on the project.

Plans call for the Brice building to house physical therapy, with a weight room and therapy pool included in the renovation. The facility also will house a public gym and an aerobic gym as well as a physical therapy area.

The proposed renovation calls for an additional 2,880-square feet to be added to the building. That addition will house the pool.

Physical therapy policies and a contract for the pool in the building are on the agenda for the hospital board's regular meeting Thursday morning.

Med 2 renovations will add nearly 1,400-square feet, with a renovation of the existing 14,000-square feet. Med 2 will include administrative offices and boardroom.

New elevators and an urgent-care clinic also are in the plans. The urgent care facility will be located next to the emergency room.
