Many Texas ranchers sold off their herds because of last year's drought, causing a reduced supply of beef available now.
One Texas expert is predicting a 4 percent drop, or about 1 billion fewer pounds of beef this year than last.
Texas endured a record-breaking drought last year, with many areas of the state receiving only about 60 percent of the normal yearly precipitation.
