According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a former Business Manager for the Lohn Independent School District was arrested for second-degree felony theft.

The DPS reports Patty Smith was arrested Tuesday and booked into the McCulloch County jail on the charge of theft over $100,000.

An employee of Lohn ISD since 1977, Smith is accused of taking money from school funds after findings discovered in an annual audit of the school's records.

According to DPS, investigation auditors discovered several checks that were cashed and then altered to look as though they were paid to vendors.

The second-degree felony charge carries a penalty of 2-10 years, up to $10,000 in fines or both.

Smith has been released from the McCulloch County Jail after posting $50,000 bond.
