Vandals Strike Snyder Park Again

By: Snyder Daily News
Updated: February 1, 2012
Vandals at Towle Park are causing headaches for the Scurry County Parks Department and Director Larry Thompson is asking for the public's help in stopping the destruction.

Overnight, vandals knocked down a section of the cinder block barrier at Prairie Dog Town, causing more than $500 in damage by Thompson's estimation. Criminal mischief causing more than $500 and less than $1,500 is a Class A misdemeanor, which can carry a punishment of one year imprisonment.

It is the second time the barrier has been knocked down. Last month, graffiti was sprayed on the retaining wall.

"Tagging is a big problem," Thompson said. "They have hit the swimming pool and restrooms -- it's everywhere."

The partitions in the new east restrooms have been ripped out of the wall, and last summer someone intentionally ran over several ducks at the park.

"When people see something, they need to call the police," Thompson said.
