Ag Report: New Fisher County Extension Agent

By: Josh Berry
Updated: February 1, 2012
The role a County Extension Agent plays in the world of agriculture is a vital part of many farmers, producers and ranchers here in the Big Country and beyond.

Fisher County can look forward to a new agent heading their way.

Josh Beaty took over the position of Fisher County Extension Agent February 1st.

He recently graduated from Texas A&M University and with the new job is moving back closer to his hometown of De Leon.

The new agent plans to be a face in the community for answers and a resource for residents to utilize with any agricultural need.

"I feel confident in my ag background, this is just something I really enjoy doing," said Beaty. "I think County Extension Agent in Fisher County is a good fit for me."

Taylor County Extension agent Robert Pritz has had Beaty under his wing for a month, training in a "First Step" program. The program provides new employees with an immediate opportunity to take the first step towards developing a basic understanding of key Extension concepts, principles and practices.

"We've been lucky enough to have Josh with us this whole month of January, training with us here in Taylor County," said Pritz. "We're trying to get him a little more acquainted with the role of an extension agent before he goes directly back into Fisher County and becomes an agent there."
