AISD Responds to UIL Realignment

"In terms of UIL size, this is about as big as they make em," Said AISD Superintendent Dr. Health Burns.
The 2012 UIL realignment into district 2-5a adds 3 new schools this year, Amarillo Tascosa, Lubbock Coronado and San Angelo Central.
It also adds distance.. which will likely affect travel expenses.
"The trip to Amarillo is a long trip and relatively expensive in terms of travel and gas costs," Explained Burns. "But the rest of the trips are on par with anything that we could have anticipated with the UIL in terms of assignment."
And in terms of who will travel under the school budget, that decision will be made in the spring.
"Every year we go through processes. Our athletic teams and our sponsors go through processes where they make choices about who is going to travel and what groups are going to attend what events. I don't expect any significant changes as a result of the redistricting," Said Burns.
Regardless of the distance, or what costs it may bring, the district says they're not worried about a lack of attendance.
"Our attendance was very poor when we were zoned and redistricted to the east. So were pretty excited about the prospects of exciting and well attended games in the coming UIL years," added Burns.
