The cosmetic world has revolutionized the way we age. But since the FDA doesn't check ingredients in beauty products, it can be hard to regulate harmful toxins in cosmetics.

"Things we expect to be safe may have hormone disruptors in them, may have carcinogens in them," said makeup expert Jennifer Taggart.

When buying beauty products, think safety before price and make sure these three words are not in it.

Number one is Fragrance. Pthalates make things absorb better to the skin so the scent lasts longer and help our lotions look creamier, but they're also a hormone disrupter and get this, fragance free products only means it has no scent, but could still contain the toxin.

Number two parabens, which is a estrogen mimicker. Although it doesn't cause it, measurable concentrations of six different parabens have been identified in biopsy samples from breast tumors.

Parabens are absorbed through intact skin. So before choosing your deodorant, check the label for the harmful toxin.

Number three, formaldehyde. The chemical helps to ensure the safety of products by protecting them against contamination, but it's also an irritant to the skin if consumed in large amounts.

Last year scientists listed it as a carcinogen, a substance that could cause cancer.

Be safe, always look for products that have the certified USDA organic logo.
