Her mom, Jaime did not mind that she took some time off.
"She wanted to play basketball and she wanted to play softball and she wanted to show animals this year for FFA," says Jaime, "she likes other things and has other interests and that's fine with me... as long as my kids are involved in something."
Alexis says she enjoys the pageants however the "getting ready" part isn't her favorite.
"I like the make up, it's just the hair... the bobby pins, they get into your head," said Alexis."
"When you put them on, it makes you start to like...water your eyes... your eyes start to water and they hurt... I just don't like them," she continues.
From picking out the dress to posing, practicing is a must for Alexis, even if that requires missing school for a little bit.
"Sometimes my mom gets me out of school early so I can do it," says Alexis.
She says, "Practicing isn't so hard, but when you learn your routine it's kind of hard because like you don't know what you're doing just yet."
Practice is important considering these pageants aren't cheap.
Entering the pageant can cost anywhere from $300 to $1000.
"Luckily L have a mom who can sew really really good and I don't have to worry about buying Lexi's outfits because she makes everything. She makes everything Lexi wears," Jaime says.
Feeling confident is what Alexis needs.
Her competition she says gets tougher throughout the years.
Alexis commented on her competition. "The competition is kind of hard, and like, sometimes I get nervous when I go back stage."
Her mom says her getting nervous is a new thing.
"She's started to get a little older now because she understands now that it's competition and she goes to these pageants and she'll see the same girls at all the pageants and she knows which ones are her competition."
She forgets the nerves and remembers why she's in pageants in the first place.
"I just went up there and I had fun," says Alexis.
Even though Alexis is back in the glitz and glamor world, balance is something her mom will always keep in mind.
