An alleged shoplifting incident turned violent Saturday afternoon.

Police responded to a report of a fight going on at a business in the 2700 block of South 14th Street around 5:00 Saturday evening.

The owner of the store reportedly confronted 31-year-old Johnny Jermaine Kanzig for alleged shoplifting.

After the initial confrontation, a struggle ensued that resulted in the store owner receiving a cut. The suspect then kicked the owner's wife in the shoulder, according to police.

When police arrived, the suspect took off running only to be found a short distance away.

Kanzig was arrested and charged with robbery, evading arrest and possession of marijuana stemming from an outstanding warrant.
