McMurry's Jones Earns ASC West Player of the Week

McMurry senior forward Steven Jones (Compton, Calif. / Long Beach Wilson H.S.) was named as the American Southwest Conference West Division men's basketball Player of the Week, it was announced Monday by the league office.

Jones averaged 29 points - on 68.8 percent shooting - 5.5 rebounds, three steals and 2.5 assists to fuel a pair of conference wins. Jones, who takes the division's top weekly award for the second time this season, also went a combined 13-for-14 from the free throw line and added a block.

Jones poured in 28 points against Howard Payne to clinch an ASC tournament spot, before going for 30 against Sul Ross State. Both were career scoring highs.

On the year, Jones has scored in double figures in 22 of the War Hawks 25 games. Jones also finished the regular season with nine games of 20-plus points.
