ABILENE, Texas - Volleyball teams from Texas and Oklahoma will venture to Abilene this weekend to compete in the USA Volleyball North Texas Region FrontierFest Volleyball Tournament.

Games will be played at Abilene Christian Schools, Cooper High School and Abilene High School, Saturday and Sunday. The USA Volleyball sanctioned tournament will host 70 teams this weekend. The Abilene Convention and Visitors Bureau Sports Alliance is pleased with the constant number of teams that participate eachyear and attributes this to a well-run tournament and the directors' involvement in the USA Volleyball community.

Tournament directors, Regina Sanders and John Linne, anticipate approximately 1,000 participants to attend the tournament. Sanders says, "Using gyms spread all over the city is the hardest part of the tournament and the cost is increased by having to staff so many locations. A majority of these teams are used toplaying in facilities that can host 70-100 teams on 8 to 10 courts. The fewer facilities you have to use makes it easier for the planner, the players and the fans."

Debi Schultz, Sports Sales Director, agrees. "Over $408,000 in economic impact will be brought into the Abilene from this tournament. If Abilene had an indoor facility we could easily increase the number of volleyball and basketball tournaments we host adding significantly to the tax base and economic impact of the city."

The tournament is scheduled to begin on Saturday, Feb. 225 and will continue through Sunday, Feb. 26. Cost: $5 for a tournament pass and $3 for daily admission. Additional information about the tournament can be found at www.friendlyfrontierfest.com.
