Texas Forest Service Gears up for Wildfire Season

By: Adam Singleton
Updated: February 23, 2012
The Texas Forest Service now has more resources in place, ready to fight fires across the state.

The TFS added to its fleet today to make sure it has what it needs to ensure that it's ready for wildfires.

The recent drought and windy conditions have made for high fire danger but officials say it's not all that bad, so far.

"Because of the drought we didn't get a lot of moisture so we didn't grow a lot of new fuel out there so that's the only good side; that may be it. We're not at the levels we were at this time last year. But there are mechanisms in place that allow us to ramp up, bring in additional resources and mobilize them to assist us," says Nick Harrison of TFS.

While officials say there isn't as much dry fuel this year, they say it's still important to be cautious as high fire danger remains.
