HSU Tries to Conquer Texting While Driving

By: Lane Stone
Updated: August 22, 2012
Hardin Simmons students got serious about texting and driving Thursday.

The HSU chapter of Alpha Phi Omega, a national service organization, asked other HSU students to not text when driving.

They're also asking them to sign a pledge confirming their commitment.

"Today we are here to help Abilene High. One of their students, Alex Brown, was killed in a texting and driving accident. So we are here to just raise awareness for it and to help them raise more support from the college here at Hardin Simmons," said HSU student Katie Whitfield.

The group distributed no texting thumb bands to remind drivers, when you pick up your phone to text while driving, that is has and could cause an accident.
