Eastland police say a 30-minute melee between a hotel clerk and suspect ended in the arrest of the man who allegedly sparked the brawl.

Police arrived at the Holiday Inn Express on East Main to find a brawl underway between the suspect, Deon Simmons, and clerk in the hotel lobby. The clerk told police the suspect stuck something in his back he believed was simulating a gun. The clerk told police he decided "it wasn't going to happen that way" and the brawl broke out.

Officers believe the fight had been going on as long as 30 minutes when they arrived. At one point, some hotel guests helped the clerk fend off the suspect.

Police say the victim was struck in the head with a metal object and sustained several bite marks to his arms and hands.

Simmons, a resident of Louisiana, now faces charges of Aggravated Robbery, a Felony of the 1st Degree.

Simmons remains in the Eastland County Jail under a $10,000.00 bond.
