Abilene SkyWarn Spotter Training

By: Natalie Ferrari
Updated: February 25, 2012
A number of local volunteers, media personel and meteorologists from all across the area gathered at acu Saturday morning for Abilene's 2012 Skywarn Spotter Training.

With severe weather season right around the corner, meteorologists from our local National Weather Service office came out to the city of Abilene.

The goal was to offer severe weather training to a number of public volunteers so they can be severe weather spotters and better help provide timely and accurate weather reports to their local national weather service office.

Hector Guerrero, with the National Weather Service said, "This is all about keeping Abilene and Taylor County safe, we can only see so much with the radar. Training these folks here to help us see what's underneath the storm, helping us and providing us with better ground-truth information so we can make better decisions when it comes to issuing tornado warnings."

Our local National Weather Service in San Angelo is grateful for all those who volunteer to be a spotter and the information they provide.
