Homes Feeling Effects of 2011 Drought

By: Natalie Ferrari
Updated: February 27, 2012
After enduring a long drought last year, many Abilene residents have been noticing cracks starting to appear on their homes and foundations.

The main cause for this damage is the shrinking and swelling of the soil and clay-like material beneath the foundation.

As the soil is forced to alternate between the severe dry times and occasional downpours, the soil within the foundation shifts around, leading to cracks and displacement.

Foundation repair companies are not the only ones busy getting homes fixed. The foundation damage can also cause a number of plumbing and even electrical issues within a home.
