Carole Houston, who has been running the Dittos for Kiddos children's consignment sale for the past 12 says business has never been better.
"Our sales have not been low because people come here looking for good prices," she said.
Dittos for kiddos is the only baby consignment spot in Abilene. It runs twice a year and has grown from just 5,000 items to choose from to 55,000.
Houston says the tight economy has lead parents to opt for consignment goods.
"They've learned that you can get lots of items for a lot better price shopping consignment," said Houston.
Some of the fastest selling items include furniture like this bassinet which normally costs around $200, but here its at $65. The strollers have completely sold out and during tough economic times almost everyone appreciates a bargain.
"You get name brand clothes for cheaper and you don't have to pay full price and that's always good," said shopper Leslie Rosa.
Abilene has seen a recent rise in retail since the end of last year. The Abilene Economic Index shows a 16 percent increase in overall sales.
Shoppers like Janice D'Amore say bargain shopping is the best way to beat the tough times.
"You can get a lot of things for a lot less and that's really important for this economy," said D'Amore.
Houston has had to expand her retail area and rent out another building at the Abilene fair grounds.
She's already sold out of enough items to move back to one and even if she cant sell out everything, she has a plan for the left-overs.
"The items that dont' sell, if consigners don't want them back then they are donated to charity," said Houston, "Some of the items stay here in abilene and some of them are sent as far away as Africa."
Dittos for kiddos will next open in summer. For now "fashionistas" can rest assured there is always a bargain for even the littlest of shoppers.
