Chief Grusendorf says he was monitoring traffic in the area of the Allsup's convenience store around 12:45 a.m. when he noted a vehicle which had identifiers that didn't match the vehicle registration. Due to the suspicious nature, Grusendorf said that he initiated a traffic stop. As the vehicle came to a stop, he noticed the three occupants making suspicious movements and the men were removed from the car and patted down, Grusendorf reported. The men were identified as 46-year-old Charles Ross Turner of Coleman, 47-year-old Roy Eugene Peel of Brownwood and 20-year-old Christopher Lance Andrews of San Antonio.
Brown County Sheriff's Deputies R.C. Lehman and Sgt. John Fincher along with DPS Trooper Michael Sams assisted in the consent search of the vehicle and Deputy Lehman located a plastic baggie which contained marijuana and a rolled up washrag that contained a glass pipe with trace residue which tested positive for methamphetamine between the console and the driver's seat, Grusendorf said.
The three men refused to talk to the officer regarding the ownership of the marijuana and the pipe, according to Grusendorf; therefore Turner, Peel and Andrews were all charged with possession of a controlled substance penalty grade 1 in a drug-free zone due to the Allsup's being near the area of the Bangs school property.
Grusendorf stated that he appreciated the cooperation of the other agencies involved.
"It is a united effort, the only way we can continue to fight the battle against drugs is to cooperate," said Chief Grusendorf. "It's great to be able to give an officer credit when they help us and are able to locate these drugs."
