Monday Last Day to File for Breckenridge ISD, City Elections

The Breckenridge Independent School District School Trustee Election will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, May 12, for the following places on the Breckenridge Independent School District Board of Trustees:

Place 1, currently held by Sandy Walker, who has filed for re-election.

Place 2, currently held by Weldon Edwards. Thomas Tennison and Rickey Edwards have each filed to run for the Place 2 seat, while Edwards has not filed for re-election.

Candidates may meet at the School Administration Office, located at 208 N. Miller. The deadline to file for a place on the ballot for Place 1 and Place 2 is 5 p.m., Monday, March 5.

To be eligible to file as a candidate for a place on the Breckenridge Independent School District Board of Trustees, a candidate must meet the following requirements:

Be a United States citizen
Be 18 years of age or older on the first day of the term to be filled at the election or on the date of appointment, 8S applicable.
Have not been determined mentally incompetent by a final judgment of a court.
Have not been finally convicted of a felony from which the person has not been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities.
Be a resident of the state of Texas for 12 months, and a resident of the District for six months prior to the last date on which the candidate could file to be listed on the ballot.
File application for place on the Breckenridge ISD general election ballot in the Superintendent Secretary's office (form AW2-17).
Designate office for which he/she is filing (form A W2-17).
Appoint a Campaign Treasurer (Form CTA).

City of Breckenridge Elections

The Election Day for the city of Breckenridge offices will be Saturday, May 12. Candidates filing for places in the Breckenridge city election officially will continue until 5 p.m. Monday, March 5.

The places up for election this year are Mayor, City Commission - Place 1 and Place 2. These positions are currently filled by Jimmy McKay, Mayor, who filed for re-election; Kody Knight, Place 1; and Sherry Strickland, Place 2.

Harvey Green, who currently is Place No. 3 City Commissioner, has filed to run for the Mayor position. Knight and Strickland, who was elected the first female city commissioner in 2010, have each filed for re-election.

Any qualified resident of Breckenridge may file in the city secretary's office for any of the races.

Qualifications for all candidates for office in Breckenridge include:

Be a United States citizen
Be 18 years of age or older on the first day of the term to be filled at the election or on the date of appointment, as applicable.
Have not been determined by a final judgment of a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be: totally mentally incapacitated; or partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote
Have not been finally convicted of a felony from which the person has not been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities
Have resided continuously in the city of Breckenridge for 12 months prior to the date of the election(Charter Provision)
File application for place on the city of Breckenridge general election ballot in the city secretary's office (SOS form AW2-15), Designate office for which he/she is filing(SOS form AW2-15)
Appoint a Campaign Treasurer(Texas Ethics form CTA).
