She's not a painter, but art has become her mission.

Patsy Billington is dedicated to showing the world her late husbands paintings.  She recovered more than one hundred pieces of art after he passed away Feb. 2011 and decided to make it her mission to showcase his work wherever she can.

"I just really feel that you shouldn't have to lock those things in a storage unit they need to be seen by people," she said.

Her husband Spencer Billington was a Stamford native who studied art at Baylor University, where the couple met.  They moved around the West, displaying his art and gathering new inspiration for paintings.

"He really liked to paint people," said Billington. "People was one of his best things, he did many many portraits."

His paintings run anywhere from $150 to $5,000, but there's one painting she'll never sell a floral painting she fell in love with from the moment she saw it.

"I was really complimentary about it and I really love it and he says okay that's yours, we'll never sell it," she said.

The retired phone operator keeps herself busy promoting the artwork and finding places where she can sell it.  She says its a hard task, but to her its much more than a job.

"He did say that he did not want me to just give them away or anything like that, he wanted me to show them and so that is my mission," said Billignton.

Billington will next display her husband's artwork during Artweek on March 8, 2012 at her studio located at the Cockerell Building in downtown Abilene.
