ABILENE - Abilene Christian junior left-hander Austin Palmer
Tuesday was selected as a Lone Star Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week
along with Tarleton State's Pete Perez.
The weekly laurel is Palmer's first of the year, and third for the
Wildcat baseball team. Senior Duncan Blades was named Co-Hitter of the
Week on March 1, and freshman Tyler Eager received the same honor on
Feb. 7.
Palmer (1-0) was recognized for his performance Sunday night vs.
the Texans, in which the native California captured his first victory of
2012 behind three hits and five strikeouts through 8.0 innings of work.
The Wildcats won the game 6-1, which snapped
a two-game losing streak and lifted their season record to 11-7.
Palmer was a little shaky to start the game by walking three in the
first two innings, but was close to perfect the rest of the way as he
allowed just one base runner over the last five. His lone blemish late
in the game was a two-out double by Garrett Hardey,
who was left stranded at third when Jonathan Schmitz struck out looking
to end the sixth.
Palmer turned the game over to Josh Stone in the ninth after tossing 108 pitches.
ACU returns to action this weekend for a three-game series at Delta State.
