Restructuring at Dyess to Reduce Over 200 Positions

By: News Release
Updated: March 7, 2012
Air Force officials released force structure changes and resulting manpower impacts from the new Department of Defense strategic guidance and fiscal 2013 President's Budget March 6.

For fiscal year 2012 and 2013, Dyess AFB will reduce a total of 202 positions, 58 civilians (as announced previously), 17 military from the 7th Bomb Wing and 127 military from the 317th Airlift Group. The reduction of manning positions in the Airlift Group is mainly tied to the replacing of the C-130H legacy model with the new C-130J.

Although Dyess AFB base is reducing the manning positions by 202, that does not directly translate to personnel.

Presently, the B-1 will continue to project global power through upgrades such as the radar Reliability and Maintainability Improvement Program, which provides an updated offensive radar system, and the Sustainment Block-14B/Laptop Controlled Targeting Pod Phase II upgrade, which allows seamless integration of the new GBU-54 Laser Joint Direct Attack Munition, all of which have increased the B-1's ability to attack moving targets on land and sea, holding any target at risk 24/7, 365 days a year.

Additionally, with the new C-130J fleet, the 317th Airlift Group will continue to deliver hope to ground troops by way of tactical equipment, medical supplies and medical evacuation, as well as providing humanitarian assistance anytime, anywhere.
