Rattlesnake RoundUp Results Announced

An estimated crowd of 30,000 attended the 54th Annual Sweetwater Jaycees World's Largest Rattlesnake RoundUp.

A total of 1,664 pounds of Western Diamondback Rattlesnakes were tallied this year, down from last year's total of 1,841 pounds.

Those bringing in the most pounds of rattlesnake were first place Andy Lee with 348 pounds, second place Eric Timaeus with 224 pounds and third place Bill Stinson with 207 pounds. The longest rattlesnake was caught by Eric Timaeus and measured 73 inches long.

Other contests were held at the Round-Up including the rattlesnake eating contest. The winner was Billy Utley of Sweetwater. Coming in second place was Bryce Hobbs from Midland and Jeff Frazier took the third place spot.

The Sweetwater Jaycees held their beard contest with the Longest Beard award going to Donnie Willman. The Best Looking Beard award went to Bo Browning and the Ugliest Beard award went to Teddy Kidd.

The Jaycees also held a Public Beard Contest with the Longest Beard award going to James Smith of Paris, Texas. The Best Looking Beard award went to Kerry Deen of Abilene and the Ugliest Beard award went to Damon Comer of Utah.

According to the Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce, media from all over covered the event including Sweetwater, Abilene, Denton, Harker Heights, Fort Bliss, San Antonio, Austin, Odessa, Tyler, Shreveport, La., New York City, Sydney, Australia, Sweden and many more.
