No one was injured, but a vehicle was struck by a bullet from what was believed to be a 9mm weapon.
Police Chief Terry Luecke said today that while the case is still under investigation, officers are following up on leads, which indicates that the shooting was not a random act.
Police also have a description of the vehicle used in the shooting. According to Luecke, 911 operators received a call at 10:52 p.m. reporting six to 12 shots fired in the area just southwest of the Coleman Apartments.
Moments later, a woman called to report that someone shot at her while she was riding in an SUV in the vicinity of the 2100 block of Avenue I. The vehicle was struck by two bullets: one entering through the driver's side window and another entering through the driver's back side window and exiting through the windshield.
While four units were being dispatched, 911 operators received three more calls reporting shots fired in the same area.
Police have filed a report for deadly conduct, which is a third-degree felony when a firearm is involved.
The crime carries a prison sentence of two to 10 years upon conviction.
