'Great Bale Out' Supplies Running Short

By: Marlisa Goldsmith
Updated: March 12, 2012
The "Great Bale Out" grant may not be able to bail as many people out as originally intended.

The Abilene Animal Shelter received a grant for $12,500 to provide bales of hay for horse owners, but now they have more applicants than grant dollars.

They only have enough for 51 applicants, which means the animal shelter will have to choose who will qualify for the hay.

"Looking at folks to see what their need is, how many horses they have, and is this going to get them to where they can financially buy hay in a few months to satisfy their horse's needs," explains Animal Services Manager Aaron Vannoy.

The shelter is looking for people to donate money and bales of hay to help provide extra relief for horse owners.
