APD Launches New Citizens Alert System

By: Abilene Police Department
Updated: March 13, 2012
The Abilene Police Department and Abilene Crime Stoppers are working together in utilizing new TipSoft Information Alert System software to empower citizens to help reduce crime.

TipSoft Alert is an informational text messaging and email alert service that allows law enforcement to broadcast alerts and other information directly to the public regarding major events such as crime, fugitives, Amber Alerts and other emergencies. A very important function of TipSoft is the ability of recipients to respond anonymously to alerts. Because the alert system is based on geographical areas within Abilene, the user has the option to receive all alerts from the system or just the ones for a specific area; i.e. their neighborhood.

Citizens can sign up and begin receiving alerts from law enforcement by going to either the Abilene Police or Crime Stoppers website. Once a citizen signs up by providing their phone number, email address or both, they will receive a confirmation message. It is the citizen's responsibility to ensure that their registered phone number and email address are accurate and up to date.  Citizens can update and remove their information or change their alert area at any time.

We are encouraging all citizens to sign up for this service. The Abilene Police Department believes that investing in this partnership with Abilene Crime Stoppers is yet another method of our continued commitment towards being proactive with the public we serve. Let's all work together to help make our community a safer place to live, work, and raise a family.
