Testimony is underway in the trial of an Abilene man charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child.

Mark Aldrete is on trial for the charges stemming from a Christmas 2007 incident involving a 6-year-old girl.

Today the girl's mother testified that her daughter told her about the incident.

A nurse who examined the girl for physical evidence of sexual assault also took the stand and said the examination took place too long after the alleged incident for obvious physical evidence to be present, but there was indication of internal damage.

The defendant has reportedly lost his hearing between the 2007 incident and now.

Testimony continues tomorrow.
