It's still a mystery as to exactly why an early business owner was killed yesterday at a donut shop parking lot.

Police say it was a dispute that went wrong.

"Early on we're hearing it's over money," said Early Chief of Police David Mercer.

Rene Torres Pinon is charged for murder.

Police say he told them that he and Lopez exchanged words that apparently triggered Pinon to taking his gun from his car's glove compartment and going back to shoot and kill Lopez.

Pinon later turned himself in at Brownwood County Law Enforcement Center.

Fabian Gomez worked at Lopez's club Tequila Nights and says everyone is still in shock.

"When i first heard i thought it was a joke, but when everybody else started coming up and telling me then i got a phone call from a lot of people telling me, your boss was killed," said Fabian Gomez.

He 's worked for three years for Lopez and says Lopez took him in when no one else would.

"I was barred from every club in Brownwood and he was the only man that actually gave me the opportunity," said Gomez.

Lopez was set for trial at the Brownwood County Court for several liquor license violations.

Gomez says he never saw anything that indicated his boss might be in trouble.

"He was a good man to a lot of people," he said. "He was a family man, a business man and like i said he helped whoever he could help out."

The bouncer also works at a family restaurant across the street from the club, which he says he doesn't know when it will be reopened.
