A man wanted in connection with a brutal rape in South Texas was arrested in Abilene on Tuesday afternoon.

Roberto Ramirez was arrested just after 1:30 p.m. after detectives got a tip that led them to his girlfriend's home in Abilene. The address listed in Ramirez's arrest report is on Cedar Street.

Ramirez is accused of raping a woman near a Houston metro bus stop on Feb. 22.
He's accused of following the woman off a bus, then hitting her in the head with a beer bottle and forcing her into a field, where he sexually assaulted her. He disappeared shortly afterward.

"Apparently he left a couple of weeks ago. Probably once his composite was there, or around that time, he decided to go to Abilene," said Houston Police officer Pedro Moreno, "For a pretty young guy, he's pretty dangerous."

Houston police say he's also connected to several other crimes in the area. According to click2houston.com, Ramirez's criminal history includes charges of robbery, drug possession, trespassing and theft. Police say he is a gang member. Detectives said he is also a possible suspect in the same Houston neighborhood in 2008.

Ramirez remains in the Taylor County jail as of Tuesday night on $50,000 bond. Investigators say he will be extradited to the Houston area within the next two days.
