Prairie Dogs Sign Pitcher Bryan Smith

Abilene, Texas --- The Abilene Prairie Dogs announced Thursday they have signed pitcher Brian Smith to their spring training roster.

As a rookie last season, Smith played for the McAllen Thunder. He went 2-1 with a 4.91 earned-run average in 17 relief appearances. Smith also struck out 28 batters in 29 1/3 innings of work for an average of 8.6 strikeouts per nine innings.

Smith played college ball first at Blinn College in Brenham, and then Division I McNeese State University in Lake Charles, La. Smith, 23, is a native Texan who is entering his second professional season.

The Abilene Prairie Dogs are a member of the North American Baseball League who will play their first season in 2012. Season ticket plans are on sale now, and are available by calling the Prairie Dogs front office at (325) 437-6555.
