Days later and many are still in shock.
Hundreds gathered at the Victory Live church in Brownwood to pay their respects to Eduardo Lopez, the victim of Monday's shooting at the Early Donuts parking lot.
Investigators say it was sparked by a feud over money, and friends and family are still coming to terms with the tragic end.
"Well there's a lot of anger going around but I've talked with his brothers and stuff and they're all willing to forgive and move on," said Ravia McArthur, a friend of Lopez.
The 45 year-old owned several businesses in Brownwood, including the night club Tequila Nights.
Flowers and other items were left at his auto repair shop alongside a candle depicting the Patron St.Jude, who represents desperate situations.
Members of the Iron Horse Riding Club say it was all too soon.
"I just spoke with Eddie at the bank on the Friday before," said McArthur. "You know, not knowing that that was the last time that i would speak with him, it was a big shock."
Emilio Gomez was was Lopez's business partner who eventually purchased their joint Mexican restaurant.
The friend of more than twenty years says everyone is still trying to cope.
"We still haven't come to terms with this loss," he said. "Unfortunately we don't know with total certainty what the motive was behind this tragedy."
Lopez leaves behind a wife, three daughters and several grandchildren.
Gomez says it's a heavy loss that will take time to heal.
"The family is destroyed, all of his nephews all of his brothers are suffering a lot," he said.
Rene Pinon has been charged with the murder after investigators say he confessed to what he called a killing of passion hours after the shooting.
