APD Crime Report: Keep Your Purses Close!

By: Officer George Spindler, Abilene Police Department
Updated: March 19, 2012
Friday (03/16/12) at approximately 8:40 am, APD was contacted by an elderly victim concerning the theft of her purse from a south-side business in the 4300 block of Southwest Drive. The victim's purse was in her shopping cart while she was checking out from the business the previous day and that is when the alleged theft occurred. This investigation continues and a report for Theft was taken by Officer Stan Meiser. APD reminds our community to secure all of their belongings, but especially items that can be quickly retrieved and hidden from your view by a would-be thief. Even open purses can be a welcoming target, so keep them very close to you and zipped-up.

Saturday (03/17/12) at approximately 11:40 am, Officer Jeff Bell was dispatched to a theft call. His investigation revealed that a purse was stolen from inside an unlocked vehicle in the 2400 block of S. 34th Street and that this occurred while the victim was at a garage sale. This is another example from which to remind our community that property inside vehicles, regardless of where you are located, is an attractive target for would-be thieves. Purses usually contain valuable assets, such as credit cards and cash. Take the extra few seconds necessary to secure your belongings regardless of the venue and remove valuables from inside your car. Officer Bell took a report for Burglary of a Motor Vehicle and this investigation continues.

Sunday (03/18/12) at approximately 7:15 pm, Officers Robert Brannon and Adam Lopez were dispatched to a drug call in the 1700 block of Oak Street. Officers contacted two male subjects and their investigation revealed that both males were involved in drug activity. One male subject was found to be in possession of a small quantity of marijuana and was arrested for Possession of Marijuana. The other male subject was in possession of drug paraphernalia and was cited for same and released.
