Family FunFair in Sweetwater

High Sky Children's Ranch and the West Texas Children's Advocacy Center have once again partnered to host the Seventh Annual West Texas Child Abuse Awareness Family FunFair in Sweetwater. The FunFair will be held at the Nolan County Coliseum Annex on Wednesday, April 4, from 4-6:30 p.m. The Time of Remembrance will start at 6:05 p.m. and organizers ask that everybody stay for the ceremony honoring children who have been victims of child abuse.
Seven years ago both agencies decided that more needed to be done to assure that the communities become aware that child abuse was a problem. It was found that the general public and some community leaders were unaware that child abuse existed and needed to be reported. HSCR and WTCAC decided to work together to help stop child abuse, help teach awareness of child abuse and involve local community leaders and other agencies in their endeavor. This commitment led to the development of the West Texas Family FunFair.
For the last seven years, High Sky Children's Ranch and The West Texas Children's Advocacy Center have been sponsoring this event to great success. This event is a family oriented program focused family time and its importance. Organizations that work with families are invited to attend this event and encouraged to bring information to promote their services. Families are encouraged to visit each booth and receive information about each agency. A concession stand is also provided during the FunFair at no charge. Families enjoy a great time of games, food and door prizes during this two and a half hour event. The highlight of the event is the Time of Remembrance for child abuse victims. Local community leaders attend this event and during this time the Mayor of Sweetwater and County Judges declare April as Child Abuse Prevention Month.
This event has been effective and families are given a chance to participate in a fun time free of charge. Each year organizers have relied on donations from local businesses to make this a successful event. "We are asking for your participation once again for this great time of family fun time."
