The Solid Gold Stars, a team of sixth-grade students, have been hard at work with their teachers to "build" ancient Egypt at Brownwood Intermediate School. "Our students and their parents have really gone above and beyond the call of duty for this project," said Christine Moore, BIS teacher and project coordinator. "Through a time machine, created by team students and teachers, visitors will be able to journey back in time to ancient Egypt."

The tour will offer guests the opportunity to experience everyday life for ancient Egyptians, visit a tomb, learn about mummy-making, then return back to the present day to learn how archaeology has revealed what we know about the past.

Students researched ancient Egypt in Mrs. Moore's and Mrs. Green's classes as part of an interdisciplinary project, and using all types of resources including laptops, iPads, books, and articles, students collected information to help them in their quest to accurately reproduce ancient Egypt. "The students are creating, learning, collaborating, problem-solving, and discovering," added Moore.

In addition to the tour, various student projects will be on display. People can visit the Solid Gold Stars website (www.brownwoodisd.org/sgs) for more details and the times for tours on Friday, March 23, 2012. "We really hope people will come visit," Moore said. "The kids are really excited to share their hard work."
