Time Running Out on Tax Season

By: Gina Benitez
Updated: March 23, 2012
Time is running out for those who still need to file their taxes.

The IRS deadline is just weeks away, but the United Way Center for Economic Opportunity still has its doors open to provide free and fast tax filing services.

This year, the center has allowed for a new opportunity: to file returns for previous years, get back on track and in many cases, allow those who qualify to put money they didn't know was theirs, back into their pockets.

"Our staff and volunteers there are ready and able to make sure that they're claiming the appropriate tax credits that the IRS will let them and get refunds if they're available. And that's really an important service we're providing for our community," says United Way's Lauren Kimball.

Refunds this year have already surpassed last year's entire totals at $1.9 million.
