Yesterday afternoon at approximately 2:30, Officer Josh Davis was dispatched to a shoplifter call at a business in the 4500 block of South First Street. A loss prevention employee had detained a male suspect back into the store for the alleged theft of boots. Officer Davis' investigation revealed that the suspect had walked up to the store exit wearing a pair of boots for which he had not paid. His investigation also revealed that the suspect had removed the bar-code tag from the boots. The suspect was arrested for a theft-related charge; tampering with ID number.
Last night at approximately 8:08, officers were dispatched to an armed subject call in the 4000 block of South Seventh Street. The calling party had alerted APD that there was a male suspect chasing a female with a knife outdoors. Officers were directed to a nearby apartment complex where the calling party had lost sight of the suspect. While at the incident scene, dispatch was contacted by another calling party advising them that there was an ongoing altercation between a man and woman not far from the apartment complex. Sgt. Jason Haak located the male suspect and seized a knife that the suspect possessed. During his contact with the suspect, the suspect resisted arrest. The distraught victim was also located nearby and the investigation revealed that the victim had been assaulted and held against her will and threatened at knife point. During this investigation, Officer Brian Poynor discovered that another male suspect was involved in this incident and had aided in the commission of the crime while also providing refuge to the suspect. The two suspects were positively identified as co-conspirators in this incident. The suspect that possessed the knife was arrested for aggravated assault with deadly weapon, unlawful restraint with family violence, and resisting arrest. The second suspect was arrested for unlawful restraint.
