Taylor Co. Residents Can Claim Forgotten Funds

Taylor County residents who think - or hope - they might have some money waiting in the state's Unclaimed Property database can search the list at an event hosted by the Texas Comptroller's office and Taylor County Treasurer Lesa Crosswhite.
The Comptroller's office reports that Taylor County residents currently have about 74,000 unclaimed properties worth more than $6.6 million.
"The current balance in the state's unclaimed property fund is approximately $2.5 billion," said Texas Comptroller Susan Combs. "That money belongs to Texans, and it is important that we get it back into the right hands. Events like this enable us to educate people about forgotten funds, and encourage them to check the Unclaimed Property List often."
Staff members from the Comptroller's and Taylor County Treasurer's offices will help people search for unclaimed property online, fill out claim forms and answer questions about the Unclaimed Property program.
The event will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4, and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 5, in the Elections Office of the Taylor County Annex, located at 400 Oak Street in Abilene.
The Comptroller estimates that one in four Texans has money waiting to be claimed. Unclaimed property includes utility deposits or other refunds, insurance proceeds, mineral interest or royalty payments, dormant bank accounts and abandoned safe deposit box contents.
