Prairie Dogs Sign Rookie Pitcher

Abilene, Texas --- The Abilene Prairie Dogs announced Thursday they have signed rookie pitcher Erik Gonsalves to their 2012 spring training roster.

Gonsalves is a native of Fairfield, Calif. who played two seasons at the NAIA's Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Mo. Gonsalves posted a 4-3 record with a 4.70 earned-run average in 13 games and eight starts for Culver-Stockton last year. Of his eight starts, two were complete games and one was also a shutout.

In 2010 Gonsalves went 4-5 with a 7.77 earned-run average in 11 games and 10 starts. He also had two complete games and a shutout that year.

Gonsalves finished his collegiate career with an 8-8 record and a 6.34 earned-run average in 24 games and 18 starts. The 24-year-old is entering his first professional season.

The Abilene Prairie Dogs are a member of the North American Baseball League who will play their first season in 2012. Season ticket plans are on sale now, and are available by calling the Prairie Dogs front office at (325) 437-6555.
