APD: Witness Statements Help Officer Nab Drunken Driver

By: Officer George Spindler, APD
Updated: March 30, 2012
Last night at approximately 9:07, Officer Roger Romero was dispatched to a shoplifter call at a business in the 1600 block of Highway 351. His investigation revealed that a loss prevention employee had contacted two female suspects responsible for concealing and then stealing over $50.00 in merchandise. The suspects were arrested for misdemeanor theft.

Last night at approximately 9:23, Officers were dispatched to an armed subject call at a residence in the 2800 block of Bennett Drive. Officer Chris Lazirko conducted the investigation and learned that a husband and wife were involved in an argument that escalated while they were seated inside of a vehicle outside of a residence. The male suspect had produced a knife in a threatening manner and placed his wife in fear for her safety. The wife ran from the vehicle and sought shelter inside the residence. The male suspect was arrested for aggravated assault/family violence.

Last night at approximately 10:05, officers were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident in the 300 block of College Drive. Officer Joshua Davis conducted the investigation and learned from witnesses at the scene that the male driver of an involved vehicle had conspired with a passenger to deceive police about whom was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident. Officer Davis contacted the male identified as the passenger by witnesses. This male subject lied to Officer Davis about his involvement in the accident by claiming to be the driver. The actual driver was also contacted and continued with the ruse by telling Officer Davis that he was the passenger in the vehicle. Officer Davis detected indicators of intoxication from the real driver and continued his investigation. Other evidence supported the facts being asserted by the witnesses and the driver was arrested. The male suspect provided a breath sample that showed his BAC to be 0.165 and 0.169. The man was charged with an enhanced misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated due to his level of intoxication being above a BAC of 0.15.
