By: News Release
Updated: March 30, 2012
The Texas State Technical College West Texas Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic program is the first college in the area to earn national accreditation through The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).

CAAHEP notified TSTC West Texas President Gail Lawrence of the program's accreditation through March 2017 by letter, "The recent peer review conducted by the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP) and CAAHEP's Board of Directors recognizes the program's substantial compliance with the nationally established accreditation standards."

TSTC West Texas is the first in the Big Country and one of only 25 colleges statewide that have earned the nationwide accreditation that must be in place by Jan. 1, 2013.

Andy Weaver, EMT-Paramedic Program Director at TSTC West Texas said, "The CAAHEP has high standards, this accreditation attests to the quality education our students receive at TSTC West Texas."

Approximately 20 students graduate the EMT-Paramedic program each year, most taking jobs in the Big Country.
